I am very pleased to update you about the 2010 State Budget.
It is a Budget that invests in the vital services that matter, protects the lifestyle of Victorian families and plans for the future.
This year’s centrepiece is a record $4 billion boost to Victoria’s hospitals and health that will provide new hospitals, more hospital staff, more ambulance services and extra hospitals beds.
It also provides 1,966 more police on the frontline – the biggest one-off boost to frontline police in the State’s history.
In addition, we are building for the future with a $9.5 billion infrastructure program with key projects such as the $4.1 billion Regional Rail Link and the $759 million Peninsula Link.
And we are investing in the right projects for growth especially in our regions including the biggest hospital project ever announced for regional Victoria – a new $473 million hospital for Bendigo.
Because of our Government’s AAA-rated economic management Victoria is leading the worldwide recovery from the Global Financial Crisis; taxes are coming down, borrowings are coming down and the Budget is again in surplus.
And all this means jobs.
This Budget is expected to create and secure 30,000 Victorian jobs, on top of the more than 99,300 Victorian jobs and 92 per cent of all the full-time jobs created in Australia over the past year.

I will also be online 8pm tonight on the Premier’s website to take your questions.
I am very proud to be delivering a Budget that is standing up for families and securing jobs.
