made offer to CHR head

MANILA, PHILIPPINES–Chairman Leila De of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) announced on Tuesday that she would resign from her current to accept President-elect Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino 3rd’s offer to join his Cabinet. De Lima made the announcement after her closed-door meeting with Aquino in his residence at Times Street in West Triangle, Quezon City.

De Lima is known to be the fiery and very vocal head of the CHR, and was one of the very first people to speak out against the November 23 Maguindanao massacre that left 57 people dead including 31 journalists.

“We talked about it [the Cabinet position]. He offered the position, I accepted it. But he [President-elect Aquino] will do the announcement,” de Lima said.

But the Human Rights chairman did not mention what Cabinet position she has accepted. De Lima will reportedly be appointed as head of the Department of Justice to replace acting Justice Secretary Alberto Agra.

When asked prior to her meeting with Aquino if she has accepted the Justice department post, de Lima said: “We are going to talk about it.”
