Excelsis is a four-part Catholic choir which sings for numerous parishes within the Archdiocese of Melbourne. On Friday, 14 November, the choir gave a free public concert in St Patrick’s Cathedral to celebrate the first anniversary of its founding. Excelsis sings a wide variety of sacred music, from classical works, to Kenyan chant, to Gospel.

The concert opened with a resounding performance of ‘How Great Thou Art’, and featured guest artists Martina Link (Soprano) and Shanul Sharma (Tenor). Throughout the concert, Excelsis delivered a characteristically diverse selection of songs and concluded with an encore performance of Handel’s ‘Hallelujah Chorus’, which received a standing ovation from the 1000+ audience members who had gathered to celebrate this special occasion with the choir.

In its first year, Excelsis has amassed a great number of achievements and accolades and has sung throughout Melbourne and Victoria.

Excelsis rehearses in Oakleigh East on Thursday evenings and always welcomes new members. If you would like to learn more about the choir, please see www.excelsis.org.au or email info@excelsis.org.au.
