More than 700,000 of tulips at this year’s Tesselaar Tulip Festival

The 62nd annual Tesselaar Tulip Festival, one of Victorias premier tourist attractions, will be open to the public on 10 September 2015 from 10am to 5pm daily. It will run until 6 October 2015.

Each year, the festival builds into a greater and more spectacular event. In 2015, the Festival organisers have planted an additional 100,000 Tulips, bringing the total to well over 700,000 spread over 120 different colours and varieties. There are also have thousands of other flowering bulbs on show. “You wont see a show like this anywhere else in Australia, the dazzling array of colour is simply breath taking,” says Festival organisers.

This year, the organisers will unveil the country’s biggest clogs. “Yes thats right one of the biggest wooden shoe’s in the world will be revealed at the Tesselaar Tulip Festival. Working in conjunction with internationally renowned chainsaw sculptor, Rob Bast the huge clog will be over three metres long and visitors will be able to sit in the clog for a photo,” the organisers said.

The Tesselaar Tulip Festival has something for everyone, from children to grandparents and everyone in between. There are live daily entertainment and market stalls and there is a huge display of tulips which visitors can wander amongst them and even pick their own to take home.

Set amongst the Tulips is Victorias sixth richest sculptor prize, an acquisitive award boasting some of Australias best sculptors, with a $10,000 prize.

Set on 55 acres of working farmland, in the picturesque Dandenong Ranges, the Tesselaar Tulip Festival is less than an hours drive from Melbourne. The event attracts tens of thousands of visitors from around Australia and the world.

The Tesselaar Tulip Festival is open for four weeks, and offers themed days for a bit of extra fun. Themes include: Turkish weekend, Yarra Ranges week, Dutch weekend, Food, Wine and Jazz weekend, Irish weekend and Childrens weeks (during school holidays with super heroes The Avengers, and crazy characters The Minions).

Third generation tulip grower, Paul Tesselaar continues the proud family tradition, keeping his heritage alive at the annual Tesselaar Tulip Festival. The historic gardens were first open to the public in 1954, by his grandparents, Cees and Johanna Tesselaar.

Ticket prices are: Adults $24, Concession $20, Kids under 16 Free.
