Western Union Supports Medical Mission to the Philippines

Previous posts

Western Union, a leader in global payments, has committed to support the Philippine Australian Medical Association (PAMA) on their annual medical mission to the Philippines in 2017.

Western Union will provide funds to purchase medical supplies, medicines and hospital equipment to support PAMA volunteer doctors during their scheduled medical mission to Paracelis, Cordillera in May 2017.

Over the last 10 years, PAMA doctors in Australia have donated their time and services to provide medical and dental services, as well as managed health education and training seminars. From the north to the south, they’ve reached poverty stricken towns in the Philippines including: Polillo, Quezon (2008), Gubat, Sorsogon (2009), Dumaguete, Negros Oriental (2010), Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental (2011), Pagadian, Zamboanga and El Nido, Palawan (2012), Sasmuan and Lubao, Pampanga (2013), Solana, Cagayan (2014), Tanuan and Tolosa, Leyte (2015) and San Fernando, La Union (2016).

PAMA also assists new Filipino migrant doctors through tutorials and study groups to enable them to pass the Australia Medical Council (AMC) exams and practice in Australia.

Their 10th year of medical mission also coincides with PAMA’s 25th anniversary, which will be celebrated at Biviano Event Centre at Dural, NSW on August 19, 2017.

“We are most grateful for Western Union’s assistance. Their contribution will help PAMA reach out to more people needing medical help in the Philippines,” said PAMA President Dr. Lorna Benedicto.

“We are guided by a purpose of moving money for better” said Simon Millard, Western Union country manager, Australia. “Western Union’s contribution to the Philippine Australian Medical Association supports their efforts to provide medical treatment to the needy, while promoting a healthy lifestyle. It also affirms our commitment to build better lives in the communities we serve.”
