Australia celebrates the achievements and service of 1,042 of its citizens with the announcement of the Australia Day 2024 Honours List. Among the distinguished is Ms Carmen Anne Garcia, a Filipino Australian who has been awarded the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her significant service to the multicultural community through diversity and inclusion advocacy and programs.

The Governor-General, in a statement of national pride, extended congratulations to “the outstanding Australians recognised in today’s Honours List.” These individuals are lauded for their substantial contributions that have made an impact at local, national, and international levels. “Individually, they are inspiring, and collectively, they speak to the strength of our communities,” the Governor-General affirmed, honoring their dedication, hard work, and altruism.

The Honours List is celebrated for its diversity, with recipients from all corners of Australia affecting change in a myriad of fields. The Governor-General also pointed to the modesty of the honourees, urging them to relish in the recognition that their country has bestowed upon them.

For the second consecutive year, the majority of recipients in the General Division are women, showcasing the honours system’s dedication to equality and representation. The Governor-General encouraged all Australians to participate in the honours system by nominating those who exemplify the nation’s values for public admiration and recognition.
