NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian resigns amid corruption probe

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has resigned, after the state’s corruption watchdog revealed it was investigating her.

The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) will hold public hearings later this month to investigate whether there was a conflict between Ms Berejiklian’s public duties and private interests when she was in a personal relationship with then-MP Daryl Maguire.

The inquiry will also investigate whether she was “liable to allow or encourage the occurrence of corrupt conduct” in her secret partner Daryl Maguire.ICAC will look at grant funding promised and/or awarded to the Australian Clay Target Association in 2016/17 and to the Riverina Conservatorium of Music in Wagga Wagga in 2018.

Ms Berejiklian conceded her shock announcement comes amid some of the “darkest days in the state’s history”.
