Of human and divine love; which love is the greatest of them all, will you be able to sacrifice one for the other? Indeed a very sensitive and controversial topic. The answers will depend on your own perspective in life.
Whatever you choose, both of them have one thing in common – acceptance. Acceptance of responsibilities, commitments and sacrifices for the one you love.
The Cardinal, film of 1963 exemplified what divine love is. A young priest had to choose between the life of his sister and her unborn child. The head of the baby had to be crushed to save the mother, yet being a priest he did not allow this to happen, resulting in the death of the mother. That made him question his faith.
He requested a two year sabbatical leave and went to Vienna Austria to teach. There he met and fell in love with a girl, however the priest did not violate his vows of chastity and in the end he had chosen divine love. His love for God was stronger in his heart than human love.
Same heartaches and sorrow will be felt by a mother, who has no choice but to give up her newborn child for adoption for the sake of its welfare and future. Sacrifices have to be made for the sake of your loved ones.
Loving someone is not easy. You have to accept the whole package, his or her own imperfections.
Loving does not mean changing the person for your own personal intent. You will always feel pain and hurt whenever you see your loved one suffer. You will always worry about them.
But then again it’s only a small price to pay for the joy and happiness that you feel, of loving and being loved.
Here is my unpublished poetry about love:
Love encompasses everything
Does not know boundaries
It is so strong
It will conquer all
Along its path
Does not care who you are
Regardless of gender, status,
Or beliefs.
Makes a strong man cry
And a weak man strong
