Ang Huling Paalam ni Pepe

It’s the 30th of December now. We commemorate the martyrdom and death anniversary of a Great Filipino, our hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal. Our prayers and hope are for our Kababayan and Kabataan to find inspiration from this remarkable man.

To remember him, here’s a poem in Filipino, dedicated to Rizal Day 2025:

Tula ni Rado Gatchalian

Nasugat na ako minsan
At maging ang mga tuyong dahong
Nahulog mula sa langit,
Walang tugon kundi
Ang yakapin ang mga pulang rosas
Sa damuhang walang inaangking lupa.
Kung ako’y alipin man
Paalam, paalam!
Kung ako’y magbabalik man,
Ako’y nasa halimuyak ng puting rosas
Na alay niyo sa aking bantayog,
Ang aking hiling at pakiusap—
Sa bawat Kabataan ay mag-alab
Ang pusong tapat, dalisay,
at may pagmamahal sa Bayan!
Paalam!
Ako’y naghihintay lamang…
