Filipino-Australians help Typhoon Lando victims

Melbourne, Victoria– Liza Di Blasio, Director of Mister Philippines Australia, is appealing to Filipino-Australians for donations to meet relief needs of the victims of Typhoon Lando (Koppu). Mister Philippines Australia have started this week the Feeding Program for the victims of Typhoon Lando in Nueva Ecija, Philippines. Di Blasio said they need more donations so they can assist additional people, most of whom need from basic needs of food, beddings, clothing to shelter.

Give Love Project
On 24 October 2015, raffle tickets for Give Love Project will be sold during the Mister Philippines Australia final competition to help assist the typhoon victims and for the Noche Buena Meal distribution on Christmas Eve. Di Blasio is thanking those who already bought the tickets and she is encouraging others to tell their friends and family members to buy tickets or donate cash.

Emergency Relief Fund for Philippines
Roy Carbungco, President of the Emergency Relief Fund for Philippines (ERFFP), has also started collecting donations for the Typhoon Lando victims.

“Once again our kababayans in Northern Luzon need our help especially those in Nueva Ecija and Casiguran Aurora which were worst hit by floods,” said Roy Carbungco, President of ERFFP. He added that their group is now coordinating with its counterpart in Manila, the Rotary Club of San Juan West.

On 2 November 2015, the ERFFP will join force with the Pampagueño Club of Victoria Inc during its Melbourne Cup Eve Dinner Dance at the Ferraro Receptions in Campbellfield.

Families affected by Typhoon Lando
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) recorded a total of 41 deaths and 78 injured while five persons were reported missing. Around 25,182 families or 113,534 persons are still staying in 455 evacuation centres in Luzon.

The NDRMMC also recorded a total of 784 incidents including:
– 765 flooding incidents in Pangasinsan, Isabela, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Bulacan, Pampanga, Zambales, Cagayan and Benguet
– six drowning incidents in regions II, III, IV-A and CAR
– four landslides in regions I and CAR
– two collapsed walls in Zambales
– two electrocution incidents in region II and III
– five toppled trees in region I and National Capital Region

The NDRRMC is still collating and updating its list of affected areas and families.
