Must read

The Philippine Consulate in Melbourne has strengthened its commitment to community welfare by donating $5,500 to the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH). The generous contribution underscores the Filipino-Australian community’s dedication to healthcare services in Australia.

The funds were put together from raffle proceeds from the 125th Philippine Independence Day Family Day event in Springvale, as well as donations from community members.

The handover at the Philippine Consulate on 14 November 2024 was attended by members of the Filipino-Australian community who lauded the initiative as a symbol of goodwill and solidarity. The funds are set to be allocated toward critical medical equipment and pediatric care programs.

Mr Ryan Brown, CEO of the RCH Foundation, formally received the donation and expressed their gratitude. He highlighted the impact of community-driven efforts in support of the hospital.

“We love the community coming together, raising [donations]. All of it goes to the kids in the Royal Children’s Hospital,” he says. He shared that the hospital is one of the top five pediatric hospitals in the world.

“Every year, over 90,000 children walk through our emergency department seeking urgent care… every year, over 14,000 surgeries for kids… and the RCH can only provide those services because people like you come together.”

He also mentioned that last year, there were around 75 children from the Philippines who came to RCH.
