Filipino Food Movement Founder Releases Children’s Book Inspired by Pilgrimage Experience

Sydney, NSW — Filipino-Australian author Anna Manlulo, founder of the Filipino Food Movement Australia, has transformed her recent pilgrimage along the Camino Frances into a heartfelt children’s book, The Tiny Slimy Pilgrim. The story reflects Manlulo’s experiences, told through the perspective of Nana, a curious snail.

In The Tiny Slimy Pilgrim, Nana dreams of seeing the world beyond her garden. She hitches a ride on the backpacks of pilgrims walking the Camino Frances in Spain, embarking on an adventure. Along the way, Nana faces challenges, forms friendships, and discovers the beauty of different cultures, echoing Manlulo’s own journey.

Manlulo, known for promoting Filipino food and culture in Australia, enriches the story with elements of her heritage. The book’s illustrations depict the varied landscapes of the Camino, with themes of Filipino resilience and kindness woven throughout.

“The Camino Frances was a transformative experience,” says Manlulo. “I wanted to share the spirit of the pilgrimage with children in a way that was both relatable and inspiring. Nana’s journey embodies the courage it takes to step outside your comfort zone and the joy of discovering new things.”

The Tiny Slimy Pilgrim, dedicated to Manlulo’s four daughters and grandson, reflects the insights she gained along the way.
