Friday Basketball League opens FBL-ESPINA Cup

A group of Filipino basketballers gather to play casual games every Friday night 7-10pm at Kambrya Secondary College in Berwick, Victoria. Most of the players are Filipinos who have loved playing this sport since childhood. This particular group was started by Lowel Bonsato in 2012 who was aiming to have a healthy and family-oriented basketball group.

In September 2022, the group decided to organise a small basketball league to add a bit of competition, while still maintaining a casual game. This current season is being sponsored Ms Bernadette Espina of Espina Real Estate Group.

The FBL-ESPINA CUP 1 was won by Fribol Saints v Fribol Cats, with a final score of 56-51. Edwin Jr Evaristo was awarded the Finals MVP. The Mythical Five was awarded to RJ Rempis, Luis Benipayo, Mac Rigor Cruz, Gemmar Obana and Richard Arboleda.

On 28 April, Fribol Cats got their revenge in the FBL-ESPINA CUP 2, becoming champions against Fribol Saints. Both teams played hard in their Best of Three Finals Game. Individual awards will be announced and awarded at the opening of Season 3 as well as rings for the new champions.
