“Jojo Lost His Shoe” – A New Filipino-Australian Short Film in Production

A new short film titled “Jojo Lost His Shoe” is currently in production, exploring the dynamics of a Filipino-Australian family living in Melbourne. The film follows a family as they prepare to attend a function, only to face an unexpected delay when Jojo, the youngest family member, loses his favorite shoe. This small incident serves as the catalyst for a deeper exploration of the relationships within a three-generation household, a family structure common in Filipino culture.

Felino Dolloso, an award-winning actor recognized for his work on both stage and screen, directs the film. Dolloso is also a producer and part of the cast. The screenplay is written by Rex Paragas, an emerging Filipino screenwriter who moved to Melbourne in 2008 and has since focused on telling stories that highlight the migrant experience.

The film’s cast and production team features:

  • Miles Paras, a graduate of The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), known for her roles in Australian television series such as Blue Heelers and Wentworth.
  • Bryan Yap, a Filipino-Australian actor with a diverse career in musicals, TV series, and children’s shows.
  • Dianne Diaz, an artist with a background in community theatre, dance, and radio broadcasting.
  • Christie Rivera, a seasoned performer and former SBS radio presenter.
  • Ferry Lie, a Sydney-based filmmaker and photographer with over 15 years of experience, serving as the director of photography for the project.

The production team includes producers Jade Nacionales, who also serves as the PR manager, and Dulce Aguilar. The cast also features Mara Nacionales, Leila Gwynne, and Auberon Gwynne.

The filmmakers have launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for the film’s completion and to help with its entry into various film festivals. The team is seeking support from the community to bring this project to fruition.
