Continuous lockdowns have really messed with date night options, but just because you can’t go anywhere doesn’t mean you can’t still have a wonderfully romantic time with your significant other. Thankfully, we’re still allowed to visit our partners, so all we need to do is find a way to keep our date night adventures within our own homes. In the spirit of doing just that, we’ve compiled this list of ways to have a great date night at home:
Cook together
There’s something surprisingly intimate about sharing the kitchen and preparing a delicious meal that you and your partner can enjoy together. You can find recipes for your restaurant favourites online or hunt down something new to try. Cooking together is a great bonding experience. Just make sure you have the right cookware for the delicious treat you intend on preparing.
Have a home spa night
Self-care is more important than ever with the mental toll that restrictions are taking on us all, so an at-home spa night with your partner can be a wonderful date night idea. Run a hot bath to soak in together, light candles, and crack open your favourite bottle.
When you get out, load up an aromatherapy oil diffuser with your favourite relaxing scent and give each other massages. Bonus points if you can get your hands on some massage oil that matches your diffuser scent for ultimate relaxation.
Set up a home theatre
Watching our favourite shows or streaming a movie with our partner is a date night go-to, but if you spice it up just a little, you can turn it into a lush evening. Rent a film you’ve both been wanting to see, get your hands on some buttery popcorn and choc-tops (or your preferred cinema snacks), and set up a makeshift theatre in your living room.
Dress up, turn the lights off, mute your cell phones, and snuggle up on the sofa for some quality time that’s almost like an actual movie date. If you’re used to going gold class, order your favourite takeaway and some bubbly to complete the experience.
Picnic in your backyard
Are you longing for sunny days in the park with your significant other, snacking on tasty treats and enjoying the wind in your hair? Order a gourmet hamper, break out the picnic rug, and enjoy the wilds of your own backyard. You’ll get all the regular perks of a picnic. Because you didn’t have to prepare all the nibbles yourself, you’ve still got an external element to help you feel more connected with the world.
Have a game night
Everything in the world is so serious lately, so why not switch off for the evening and spend the night playing your favourite games? Healthy competition can be a great bonding experience. If you’re into different types of games, it can be fun teaching each other how to play your favourites.
Get crafty
Like making things? Get creative on your date night by scrapbooking, painting, making candles or soaps, or pretty much any other crafty idea that sounds like fun to you both. You’ll get to keep whatever you create together and look back fondly on your at-home date night whenever you see the finished results.
Just because we can’t go out at the moment doesn’t mean you can’t have fun date nights with your partner. If you have other great ideas for at-home date nights, share them in the comments. That way, we can all keep inspiring each other. If you’ve tried any of our ideas, let us know how you went!
