Morissette brings her powerful voice and the crowd together at Sydney’s Philippine Pasko Festival

Morissette wowed Sydney and elevated the stage with her impressive four-octave singing. We caught Asia’s Phoenix live at the TFC Happy Hour during the Philippine Christmas (Pasko) Festival, a celebration of Filipino music, culture, and community that was free to attend and took place on November 29–30 at Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour, Sydney.

From her opening number, “Akin Ka Na Lang,” Morissette delivered the kind of performance that pulled the audience in from the first note. The power ballad, first released in 2014, remains one of her most loved songs and continues to resonate with listeners.

During her arrival in Sydney, escorted by her husband Dave Lamar, a Filipino singer, songwriter, record producer and director, Morissette shared her gratitude for how the song has connected with people through the years.

“I’m very grateful that the song has had the traction it has had since its release back in 2014. I’m happy that a lot of people continue to resonate with it, and I take pride in performing it everywhere in the world,” Morissette said.

As a versatile lyric soprano, Morissette Amon is known for her wide four-octave vocal range, smooth transitions and strong belting – all of which were on full display during her performance.

“My dad taught me. I’ve always been able to do that since before, but it’s definitely something that I play around with when I’m performing — using the big range so I can apply it to different songs,” she added.

When asked about her inspiration for the song “Naririnig Mo Ba Ako,” Morissette shared that it was not a song she originally wrote.

“It’s not a song I wrote. I was asked to interpret it for Himig Handog, and I’m very grateful to have been trusted with such a powerful song,” she said.

Beyond the performance, the festival itself added to the experience. The Philippine Christmas (Pasko) Festival returned to Darling Harbour for its fifth year, bringing together families and friends in a joyful celebration of Filipino traditions, food and entertainment.

The vibrant two-day event, hosted by the Philippine Community Council of NSW (PCC-NSW) in partnership with TFC (ABS-CBN Global), transformed Tumbalong Park into a festive space filled with music, culture, and a shared holiday spirit.

Morissette’s appearance became one of the highlights of the weekend — a reminder of how Filipino music continues to bring people together, even far from home.
