RP Pres, VP canvassing starts off with overseas, absentee votes

By Sammy Martin Reporter

Members of the 14th Congress sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBC) started on Thursday night their canvassing of the votes for president and vice president.
The NBC started with 100 Certificates of Canvass (COC) from the Overseas Absentee Voting.

“We need to start counting. People are already tired of waiting. We must do something,” House Speaker Prospero Nograles Jr. told reporters during a break in the canvassing.

He said that the counting of the votes from overseas Filipinos and the absentee poll results from soldiers and police who were on poll duty on May 10 did not invite questions.

“I do not think that there will an objection from our colleagues because these [overseas and absentee votes] have nothing to do with the controversial digital signature [required by the automated election machines],” Nograles added.

He said that they had organized a group of IT experts to closely scrutinize the voting results that were electronically transmitted without the required digital signature.
