St Albans Uniting Church celebrates 33 Years of Faith, Diversity, and Community

For 33 years, St. Albans Uniting Church (SAUCA) has been a place of faith, unity, and diversity, welcoming people from all backgrounds. It started as a Presbyterian congregation in 1912. In 1977, it became a congregation of the Uniting Church in Australia, which is the result of the union of three traditions – Congregational, Methodist and Presbyterian.

As the community has changed, so has the character of this congregation.  Today, the membership of our congregation includes many from the wider Filipino community as well as from other cultures.

In 1992, the congregation was recognised as the home of the first Filipino UCA Congregation. SAUCA has recently inducted their new Minister of the Word – Rev. Hoansung “Mike” You last 2 February 2025.

SAUCA celebrated its 33rd Church Anniversary last 23 February 2025. During the induction, the choir, which is composed mostly of Filipinos, sang the Lutkin’s Benediction (7-Fold Amen) and during the Anniversary had their sumptuous Fiesta-like celebration.

As Rev. Mike said, “in our sanctuary, you’ll find a beautiful tapestry of cultures woven together by God’s love. Like a garden blooming with different flowers, each bringing its unique beauty, our diverse congregation celebrates the richness of our varied backgrounds united in faith. Whether you’re from near or far, we embrace you as part of our spiritual family. Here, we discover that our differences aren’t barriers but blessings that strengthen our community and deepen our understanding of God’s boundless love.”
