Viloria, Donaire victorious, Concepcion fails

FILIPINO Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire was the last Filipino standing in Puerto Rico after compatriots Bernabe Concepcion and Eden Sonsona lost against their respective bouts on Sunday at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in Puerto Rico. Donaire (24-1 won-loss with 15 knockouts), throwing massive heavy punches and showing aggression, dismantled Mexican Hernan “Tyson” Marquez via eight round technical knockout to retain the World Boxing Association interim super flyweight belt.

Donaire delivered crisp right jabs in the first round, and landed a power straight left counter against Marquez (25-2 with 18 knockouts), who also gave the Filipino boxer a good fight in the early rounds.

But Donaire’s blistering solid attacks in the fourth, fifth and sixth periods hammered Marquez. He held on, and fell to his knees, with a minute left. Donaire went on to his right punching techniques to try to knock his opponent out.
