The World Day of Prayer (WDP) commenced last 3 March in various churches, nationwide and worldwide. The WDP is worldwide and the Service and Dedication is always on the first Friday of March. The Philippines is the country chosen to be the recipient of the WDP prayers and donations for this year. On this day, millions prayed for the Philippines and its people and throughout 2017, the prayers will continue.
The St Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Frankston held a Mass followed by a Service and Dedication. Philippine Ambassador to Australia, Her Excellency Minda Calaguian-Cruz was the guest of honour. Philippine Honorary Consul to Victoria Felix Pintado was also present. Three Filipino women, Merlyn from Mindanao, Celia from Luzon and Editha from the Visayas shared their experiences of hardship back home. For St Jude’s Church in Scoresby, a Mass started at 1.30pm. The prayer event had readings and the gospels. The mass was facilitated by Sister Mary Brady and Parish Priest Fr John Hannon. Guest speaker was Glenys Gayser of the Philippine Aid and Development. Gayfer shared some inspirational messages and extraordinary experiences she has had in her 38-year connection with the Philippines particularly through KADASIG Aid and Development, a small but effective organisation working to make a difference in the lives of our suffering brothers and sisters in the Philippines. A number of Filipinos attended the WPD.
In Dandenong, a service was were held at the Salvation Army, James Street at 10:30 am.
