True Faith brings the 80s back to Melbourne

One of Philippine’s most popular bands, True Faith, brought the house down during their very first concert in Melbourne held on 25 February at the St. Bernadette’s Community Centre in Sunshine North.

Produced by Sinag Production & Entertainment and RDV Sports & Entertainment Promotions, True Faith took the audience back to the 80s and 90s performing their greatest hits and popular classics. The crowd went wild when the they played their biggest hits “Perfect”, “Muntik Nang Maabot ang Langit” and “Huwag na Lang Kaya”. And when the band turned on the 80s groove, people got on their feet and conquered the dance floor moving to the beat. Still, nothing beats the rhythm and sounds of the 80s!

Inspired by the new wave sounds, the band got its name from New Order’s 1987 hit single “True Faith”. Formed in 1991, they released 13 best-selling albums and gained popularity creating a unique blend of jazz, folk, pop and rock music.

With over 25 years of successful music career, founder and lead vocals Medwin Marfil shared the secret ingredient of True Faith’s success, “Definitely, it’s the passion and our love for music. We love creating it, love performing it and connecting with people who come together for music.” As chief composer, when asked where he draws inspiration from in writing their songs, Marfil stated, “From life… from love… from music itself.” Probed on the inspiration behind the band’s greatest hit “Perfect”, Marfil replied smiling, “Secret… let’s keep it secret,” and the other band members, teasing and laughing, shouted “Secret!” in unison.

Continuing the creation of more hugot songs, or as Marfil calls it “may tantos (o kurot)” (leaving a mark/pinch), the band launched a music video “Paano Ka Magiging Akin” in 2016 and in January 2017, their latest single “Consolation for a Fool”.

Enjoying their first Australian Tour, True Faith band is composed of Medwin Marfil (lead vocals), Eugene Marfil (acoustic guitar/vocals), Macky Macaventa (bass guitar), Allan Elgar (lead guitar), Jake Lumacad (keyboards) and Kaka Quisumbing (drums).

“True Faith Band: LIVE First Time in Melbourne” concert was supported by Melbourne’s local artists Jun Laysio, The Juan Band, Christelle Carreon, Kalapati Band, Lora Love and Pinoy reggae band, Cinco Tempo. After Melbourne, True Faith continues with their Australian Tour, heading to Perth, Darwin and Sydney.
