2010 Fil-Oz Idol Concert

Elaine Valenzuela

A night of superb singing was rendered by seven bubbly semi-finalists of 2010 Fil-Oz Idol namely Joachim Zane Callos, Jaydean Contreras, Sheralyn May Hill, Bianca Santos, Rae Santos, Abigail Trillado and BJ Trillado. A couple of judges Dennis Butingan and Judi Mus gaily rendered some songs. Special numbers were also rendered by Fil-Oz Idol 2008 Champion Alyssa Limbo, Fil-Oz Idol 2009 Winner Arjan Batislaon, Fil-Oz Idol Finalists Kathleen Wright and Allana Sjo, and popular vocal coach and singer Karen Esco. Khenji Ang, who breakdanced was the crowd’s favourite. These young people happily rendered various songs to help raise funds to support the needs of the disadvantaged in Australia and in particular to help in the follow-up facial surgery of Jayro dela Cruz in the Philippines.

Kudos to emcees Andy K and Chito Javier for making this Filoz Idol Concert lively. This concert was held last July 10, 2010 at Destiny Centre Christian Church, Hoppers Crossing, Victoria. The invocation was led by Pastor Mel Whitworth and was graced with the presence of Guest Speakers – The Lord Mayor Cr Heather Marcus and Philippine Consul General Gigi Kalong. Also in attendance were the Judges: Mike Honey, Dennis Butingan, Grace Iwasaki, Judi Mus and Chiqui Russell. Tabulators were Sonny Castillo and Ross Baltazar.
Singing will always be in our hearts, everyone loves to sing and it’s also a universal language like love that connects people. As long as there are parents who believe on the musical talents of their children, Fil-Oz Idol will continue to promote and support these kids to show the world that we Pinoys, love to sing to our hearts desire.

Fil-Oz Idol Concert is another project of the Bridge Builders for Australasia, Inc. (BBFA). The Fil-Oz Idol Committee is composed of Lyn Castillo-Chairperson; Elvira Murdoch-Member; Lourdes Douglas-Member; Helen San Agustin-Acuna-Member; Ruth Guiao-Member and Friends of BBFA. BBFA would like to thank all of its sponsors, the Fil-Oz Idol parents and volunteers who made the event a huge success.

BBFA would like to encourage every Filipino to help us raise funds for the needy and helpless children here and in the Philippines. For 2011, BBFA will continue to support its Philippine missions and school support programs. In addition, the association’s focus will also be geared towards reconnecting with the elderly in Metro Melbourne nursing homes and organising a prison ministry which aims to give hope to inmates and assure them that they are still remembered and valued human beings.

Everyone is invited to the Fil-Oz Idol 2010 Finals and Dinner-Dance which will be held on Saturday, 9th of October 2010 at 6:00 PM at La Mirage, 210 Hume Highway, Somerton, Victoria (Melway Ref. 180 D4).
