Lorna Ramirez
Here’s a more concise version of the author bio, shortened by about half: Lorna Ramirez was born and educated in Manila, Philippines, earning a degree in Chemical Engineering and working as a laboratory manager in the textiles industry. In 1977, she migrated to Australia with her husband and two children, continuing her career as a chemist until retiring in 2000 to care for her first grandchild. The Middle East continues to face turmoil, with the war between Israel and Hamas, clashes with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, and Syria’s ongoing civil war. Political instability in South Korea adds to the global uncertainty, making 2025 a critical year for pursuing peace.

These conflicts have fueled a concerning rise in anti-Semitism worldwide, including in Australia. The levels we are seeing now are unprecedented, underscoring how unsettled the world feels. Yet, despite these challenges, I hold onto the hope that 2025 will bring resolutions and brighter days.

We may not control global events, but we can manage how we grow as individuals. In 2025, challenge yourself to become the best version of yourself—start small, set realistic goals, and work on kicking those pesky habits holding you back.

For instance, if you want to lose those extra kilos, begin exercising and adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Try something new—pick up a hobby, uncover hidden talents, or simply do something that sparks joy. It’s a great way to boost your mental health. And don’t forget gratitude—be thankful for what you have and for those who’ve helped you along the way.

These are just a few things you can start doing for a more productive year ahead. Finally, welcome 2025 with positivity, optimism, and hope!

How I became a Philippine Times contributor

It was the year 2014 that I published my first book titled “My Innermost Thoughts”. This book is all about my original poems, quotes and inspirational messages. The following year 2015 I published a memoir titled “My Passion My Calling” which was a success both here in Australia and overseas. This was the same year that I submitted an article to The Philippine Times.

George Gregorio, one of this newspaper’s founders, gave me great advice after reading my first article. While he appreciated the spiritual and inspirational tone, he suggested adding examples or anecdotes to to make it more relatable for readers. That feedback changed everything for me.

I have been writing for The Philippine Times for almost ten years. I gained so much experience, exposure and inspiration through my years of writing, that I was able to publish another five books. They were all the accumulations of my written articles in this newspaper and all my original poems, quotes and inspirational messages.

My goal in 2025 as a writer

In 2025, I want to push my creativity and write articles that inform, inspire, and spark the imagination. Another goal of mine is to tackle issues that deeply affect the community—raising awareness about social challenges to educate, inspire, and encourage readers to take action and make a difference.

Writing consistently captivating articles is no small feat, but with determination and hard work, I’m ready to give it my all. I am convinced that by publishing my articles to this esteemed newspaper, The Philippine Times, I will be able to achieve my goals in the coming year of 2025 inspiring me to be who I am today.

Let’s make this the year we take small but meaningful steps toward creating a brighter future—for ourselves and those around us.

As we step into the new year, let’s rise to the challenges together—with hope, gratitude, and determination. Wishing everyone a Happy New Year filled with growth, joy, and peace!

Excerpt from my book “Reflective Contemplations”

I do believe, no matter
What you become
Do not forget your roots
And
The people who helped you
Become of what you are today
