An Afternoon in Manila brings Filipino sounds to Petersham RSL

Petersham RSL will host An Afternoon in Manila on Sunday 8 March at 3 pm, offering audiences a relaxed musical showcase inspired by Filipino love songs, pop favourites and upbeat island rhythms.

The event forms part of the venue’s ongoing commitment to presenting diverse live entertainment and reflects the growing Filipino presence in Sydney’s Inner West. According to organisers, Petersham RSL has hosted multiple Filipino-led musical events in the past, and this show continues that tradition of community-focused programming.

The idea for An Afternoon in Manila was shaped by the vibrant Filipino community in Sydney and is aimed at the local community more broadly, inviting both Filipino and non-Filipino audiences to enjoy the music and atmosphere. Organisers said the event fits naturally within the RSL’s long-standing approach to inclusive and multicultural entertainment.

Artists with varied stage backgrounds

The afternoon features three performers whose backgrounds span community performance, theatre and live hosting.

Veteran entertainer Lilian de los Reyes brings decades of experience performing within Filipino-Australian community events and stage productions. She is known for interpreting classic Filipino love songs and familiar standards, and has appeared in productions such as Manila By Night, which celebrates music from earlier generations while keeping it accessible to modern audiences.

Joining her is Jasmine Fitzgerald, an Australian singer and musical theatre performer whose work spans contemporary pop, ballads and professional stage productions. Her theatre background contributes a polished performance style shaped by storytelling and vocal range.

Completing the line-up is Brian Lorenz, a NSW-based singer and host known for his energetic stage presence and ability to connect with audiences. His performances often blend vocals with hosting, creating a lively and approachable atmosphere.

Organisers said the performers were selected to represent a mix of styles and personalities that audiences can easily relate to, with the overall mood of the afternoon described as fun and dance-worthy.

Part of a broader entertainment mix

Petersham RSL said hosting events like An Afternoon in Manila helps reinforce its role as a community venue that values inclusion and cultural diversity. The venue has also indicated plans to continue presenting Filipino and multicultural performances as part of its future programming.
