Artists to exhibit works in ‘Transitional spaces’

The Action on Disability within Ethnic Communities Inc.’s Artability program will hold its tenth annual exhibition ‘Transitional spaces’ in Melbourne’s premier arts precinct Federation square.

Over 150 beautiful artworks with be on display and for sale in the Atrium on 10-22 December 2014. The exhibition is open seven days a week and is free of charge. Artability celebrates the work of artists with a disability or experience of mental ill health from Culturally diverse backgrounds.

ArtAbility is a year-long project made up of regular art workshops. The workshops are structured to provide opportunities for creativity, while also addressing psychosocial rehabilitation and skill building. It is also important to mention that all art groups are facilitated in a trauma informed and culturally sensitive manner and that workshops will be facilitated by the project coordinators, art therapists and professional artists. Workshops will also be developed to foster creative flow and will include drawing and using as inspiration found objects, multimedia and new technologies, photography and collage. Participants will meet at the end of each workshop to share and discuss their artworks, to receive feedback, compliments and suggestions and to determine work plans for their creations.
