Banag-Banag Inc. Marks 30th Anniversary with Cultural Event

The Banag-Banag Inc. Bisayan Speaking Association celebrated its 30th anniversary on Saturday, 21 September 2024, with a cultural and fundraising event at the Tivoli Showroom, Rooty Hill RSL, in New South Wales. The gathering brought together the Filipino community for an evening of performances, speeches, and cultural presentations.

The event began with the national anthems of the Philippines and Australia, followed by speeches from Banag-Banag President Meriam Panganiban and Grace Reyes. Blacktown City Mayor Brad Bunting also addressed the audience, acknowledging the contributions of the Filipino community to the local area.

Messages of support were featured in the event’s souvenir program. Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. congratulated the association, stating, “Your dedication to preserving our culture and supporting the Filipino community in Australia is truly commendable.”

Philippine Ambassador to Australia Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega praised Banag-Banag, saying, “Banag-Banag Inc. has been a vital bridge between the Philippines and Australia, fostering a sense of community and belonging among Filipino-Australians.”

Consul General Charmaine Rowena Aviquivil added, “Your unwavering commitment to charity and cultural preservation strengthens the bond between our two nations.”

The association expressed gratitude to long-time sponsors and partners, including Zignal Travels, Philippine Airlines, and Dr. Maxim & Maydette Ziatinov, for their continued support. Zignal Travels was recognized for its role in supporting scholarships and cultural projects.

The anniversary event highlighted the ongoing commitment of the Bisayan-speaking community to preserving their heritage and strengthening the connection between the Philippines and Australia.
