DTI invites overseas Filipinos to explore franchising investments

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Philippine Franchise Association (PFA) are inviting overseas Filipinos (OFs) and returning OFs to consider franchising and invest in the country’s recovery in an upcoming Trabaho Negosyo Kabuhayan webinar on October 22 via Zoom.

The third episode of the four-part TNK webinar series will explore opportunities in the Philippine franchising sector and feature successful franchise brands such as Potato Corner, Phoenix Petroleum, Happy Haus Donuts, Living Water, Island Tea Co., and Easy Day Shop.

Potato Corner, a food franchise known for its flavored French fries, has recently expanded in Australia with the opening of new stores in Perth, Western Australia following the success of its stores in New South Wales and Victoria. Two more stores are set to open this year in Perth and Canberra, while a pop-up store is set to open in Auckland in October or November. Potato Corner will present states/territories open for global expansion, as well as inbound investment opportunities to the Philippines.

Meanwhile, Phoenix Petroleum, Happy Haus Donuts, Living Water, Island Tea Co., and Easy day Shop will also present franchise investment opportunities in the Philippines.

While the franchise industry had been hit by the pandemic and ensuing lockdowns, with an estimated 70,000 closures in 2020, franchising remains a “tried-and-tested” model for entrepreneurship, DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez said.

DTI has been working closely with PFA to finalize a draft executive order that aims to set up a clear template of franchise terms and conditions, along with a consolidated registry system, in a bid to streamline processes and encourage investments into the sector, added Lopez.

As the vaccination rollout gains steam and the economy starts to reopen, the franchise sector is poised to benefit from the anticipated revival in consumer spending.

It is against this backdrop that DTI and PFA are inviting overseas Filipinos to explore franchising opportunities not just as a personal investment, but as a way to speed up the post-pandemic recovery by creating jobs and contributing to local development.

Sherill Quintana, president of the Philippine Franchise Association, will headline the event, along with Atty. Rowel S. Barba of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines. Chris Lim, director for ASEAN/special projects at PFA will discuss how overseas Filipinos can invest in the right franchise.

The upcoming webinar is organized by the Philippine Trade and Investment Centers (PTIC) in Bangkok, Dubai, Jakarta, Jeddah, Kuala Lumpur, New Delhi, Singapore, and Sydney. To register, please fill out this form bit.ly/TNKFranchise

Note: Attendees from ANZ are advised that the timing has been set at 9PM Sydney or 2PM Dubai time because the majority of expected OF/OFW attendees are from the Middle East. Attendees are further advised to contact PTIC Sydney should they require a post-event B2B with any of the featured brands.
