Philippine National Heritage Month – May 2019

May is the month when we celebrate our National Heritage to strengthen people’s consciousness, respect, and love for the legacies of Filipino cultural history.

In 2019, the Philippine National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is adopting the theme “Mga Pinuno Para sa Pamana” (Leaders for Heritage) as a challenge to each and every individual to take the lead in preserving and promoting their cultural heritage.

Please visit the NCCA website for the design template of the 2019 NHM celebration streamer and download copies of available IEC materials.

Philippines – Australia Friendship Day – 22 May

Formal relations between the Philippines and Australia were established when Australia opened a Consulate General in Manila on 22 May 1946. Presidential Proclamation Number 1282 institutionalised the celebration of Philippines-Australia Friendship Day every year.

This annual celebration is aimed at further strengthening the relationship between the two countries which have shared history, values and traditions. This relationship is demonstrated in programs such as development assistance, immigration issues, regional and security cooperation as well as trade and investment.

This year, I encourage you to find some way of celebrating this important occasion and the significant part it plays in being a Filipino in Australia today.
