Events celebrating Philippine culture

Consular Bulletin - Felix Pintado

Philippine National Heritage Month – May 2019

May is the month when we celebrate our National Heritage to strengthen people’s consciousness, respect, and love for the legacies of Filipino cultural history.

In 2019, the Philippine National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is adopting the theme “Mga Pinuno Para sa Pamana” (Leaders for Heritage) as a challenge to each and every individual to take the lead in preserving and promoting their cultural heritage.

Please visit the NCCA website for the design template of the 2019 NHM celebration streamer and download copies of available IEC materials.

Philippines – Australia Friendship Day – 22 May

Formal relations between the Philippines and Australia were established when Australia opened a Consulate General in Manila on 22 May 1946. Presidential Proclamation Number 1282 institutionalised the celebration of Philippines-Australia Friendship Day every year.

This annual celebration is aimed at further strengthening the relationship between the two countries which have shared history, values and traditions. This relationship is demonstrated in programs such as development assistance, immigration issues, regional and security cooperation as well as trade and investment.

This year, I encourage you to find some way of celebrating this important occasion and the significant part it plays in being a Filipino in Australia today.

IFEX Philippines – 24-26 May 2019

IFEX Philippines is the country’s biggest international trade exhibition for ethnic and specialty food, tropical fruits, vegetables, seafood, beverages, bakery and confectionery products, meat and poultry, Halal-certified products, as well as natural, organic, and healthy food products.

The three-day event is reputed as the premier business-to-business platform for local and international food companies to discover new markets, launch new products, and transact with the world’s biggest buyers.

Philippine Independence Day

The Philippine Consulate in Melbourne invites you to come together to commemorate and celebrate the 121st year of Philippine Independence by attending a Flag Raising Ceremony at Federation Square in Melbourne at 8am on Wednesday 12 June. Come join in the spirit of Filipino pride, nationalistic fervour and heartfelt thanksgiving.

There are many ways to celebrate our Independence Day, from dinner dance functions, to special ceremonies, fiestas and parades. This year, please consider becoming involved in celebrating our rich history, our resilience, our well-fought for freedom and independence.

Since 2015, the Philippines has joined the global conversation about the state of the world and its people through the Philippine Pavillion at the Venice Art Biennale. The Philippines will continue to participate in this important contemporary art exhibit.

The selected curatorial proposal will officially represent the Philippines in 2019. The deadline for submission is 24 May 2018.

The selection process, guideline, and curatorial proposal form can be downloaded from www.philartvenicebiennale.com, and the completed form and all necessary documents can be emailed to info@philartvenicebiennale.net.
