FAHWA Celebrates Four Years of Community Health Commitment with a Successful Pop-up Health Promotion Outreach

By Kelly Lobitos

Perth, Western Australia – The Filipino Australian Health Workers Association (FAHWA) proudly commemorated its four-year anniversary with a remarkable Pop-up Health Promotion Outreach. The event unfolded on October 10, 2023, at Cockburn Gateway Shopping City in Western Australia, signifying FAHWA’s ongoing mission to promote a healthy lifestyle and making healthcare accessible for everyone.

The Pop-up Health Promotion Outreach drew a diverse crowd of Western Australian shoppers, featuring a range of health promotion services, made possible by FAHWA Charity and its dedicated team of volunteers.

Participants had the opportunity to avail themselves of essential health checks and assessments, including blood pressure and blood sugar level measurements. These critical health services support early detection and management of lifestyle diseases such as hypertension and diabetes.

In addition to these mobile health assessments, FAHWA conducted information sessions on vital health topics like diabetes management, nutrition, first aid, and snake bite management.

This Pop-up Health Promotion Outreach is a culmination of FAHWA’s commitment to community wellness, which began with its official registration as a licensed charitable organisation four years ago, on October 10, 2019.

Throughout the past four years, FAHWA Charity has consistently directed its focus toward various community health programs, including Diabetes Testing, First Aid Information Sessions, and Emergency Response Awareness, equipping community members with crucial CPR skills.

Health promotion was central to FAHWA’s mission, addressing topics like blood pressure management, safe use of medicines, women’s health, pressure sore prevention, tracheostomy management, snake bite management, and safety awareness.

Beyond their dedication to health promotion and education, FAHWA has extended its compassionate outreach through initiatives aimed at helping vulnerable groups in Western Australia, Nepal and Philippines. These far-reaching initiatives include support for the homeless through the provision of essential relief packs, regular food items drop-off at Foodbank WA, dental health missions, eye health initiatives featuring free cataract and pterygium operations, reading and feeding programs, and relief efforts for disaster-stricken areas.

In fact, their reach even extended globally with feeding program efforts in Nepal and providing support for Ukraine War victims, demonstrating their commitment to making a meaningful impact on lives worldwide.

In light of FAHWA’s recent four-year milestone, the organisation remains resolute in its vision to sustain their impactful programs. This mission is reflected in the success of their recent Pop-up Health Promotion Outreach, where their legacy of community well-being and unity continues to shine brightly; adhering to their guiding principle: “Together we Promote, Maintain & Restore the health and holistic well-being of our community.”
