Fate of canvass left to Congress

Should the Congress decide to call a special session for the immediate canvassing of votes for the presidential and vice presidential races, it could be considered by the Executive, Malacañang said Thursday.

Presidential Spokesperson Ricardo Saludo said the Congress, which is composed of Senate and the House Representatives, has the final word on whether or not a special session should be called for.

“Normally when the President calls for a special session, there would need some consultations and sometimes, even a request from Congress. If Congress would like to call a special session, then it can be considered by the Palace,” he told reporters.
