Filipino-Australians unite in Melbourne for A Day of Praise and Worship

Melbourne will host A Day of Praise and Worship on 24 May 2025 at the Philippine Community Centre in Laverton — a faith-filled celebration of unity, music, and Filipino culture.

The event is organised by the grassroots group Women of Ophir, including Nhessica Weber, Luz Foxwell, and Pebbles Dela Cruz. It brings together various churches and Filipino-Australian artists to create an afternoon of live music, testimonies, and multicultural fellowship, inspired by Psalm 133:1 — “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”

As a Praise and Worship Leader and part of the Creative Team, Weber collaborated with musicians and church leaders from Transform Church Melbourne and Jesus Is Lord Church Victoria to lead the community in worship.

“The atmosphere will be alive with joyful expression — not only through song, but also through dances with tambourines, offered as an act of gratitude to the One who deserves it all,” said Weber. “The sound of praise soared even higher with the presence of a unified choir, blending voices in harmony to lift up the name of Jesus.”

Attendees can expect to hear songs performed in both English and Tagalog, reflecting the rich cultural identity of the Filipino-Australian community. Local worship leaders and artists are also joining, offering performances that highlight their commitment to using music for God’s glory. “Each song — whether a gentle melody or a roaring declaration — reflects hearts full of gratitude and a passion for authentic worship,” said Weber.

In a nod to Filipino heritage, organisers and performers will wear traditional Filipino clothing provided by Filipiñana Avenue and Lillian Bermudez.

“We also extend a warm welcome to those curious or new to this kind of worship, inviting them to experience the unforgettable Pinoy joy of praise — where culture, faith, and celebration come together,” Weber added.

While music plays a central role, the heart of the event lies in shared stories of faith. “What truly transforms hearts are the stories — testimonies of God’s healing, His faithfulness, and the unshakable light and hope Jesus continues to bring into our lives,” said Weber. “These moments remind us that worship isn’t just something we do — it’s a way of life rooted in faith, trust, and community.”

Several churches are collaborating for the event, including Transform Church Melbourne, Jesus Is Lord Church Melbourne, CrossCulture Church, and Connect City Church. The Kiko Choir, known for its performances at St. Francis Church, will also grace the celebration with classic Tagalog songs of faith.

“In the true spirit of unity, we’ve welcomed people of all ethnicities and backgrounds to join us,” said Weber. “This day isn’t just for one community — it’s a beautiful reflection of multicultural harmony, showing how diverse cultures can come together as one body in Christ.”

Weber hopes the gathering marks the beginning of more events that celebrate faith, culture, and community. “Our prayer is that this day is only the beginning. May more hearts be stirred. May more voices rise in unity. And may our city continue to witness the goodness and pleasantness of God’s people coming together in praise and worship.”
