Filipino-Australian performer cast in Legally Blonde the musical at Melbourne’s National Theatre

Legally Blonde: The Musical is set to open at the National Theatre in St Kilda for a limited season beginning 12 July 2025, presented by Melbourne-based independent company Theatrical Inc. The production features a diverse ensemble of performers, including Filipino-Australian artist Isabelle Pascua, who will appear as part of the Delta Nu Ensemble and serve as understudy for the roles of Pilar and Sundeep.

Based on the 2001 film of the same name, the musical tells the story of Elle Woods, who enrols at Harvard Law School to win back her former boyfriend but ends up discovering her own strength and identity. It’s a story that explores themes of self-confidence, persistence, and challenging stereotypes, especially those placed on women.

Cast and creative team

Emily McDougall will play the lead role of Elle Woods, making her debut with Theatrical Inc. She joins a cast comprising both returning performers and first-time members, bringing together a wide range of emerging talent.

“Legally Blonde is a celebration of confidence, courage and discovering who you really are. It’s clever, funny and full of heart and I can’t wait for Melbourne to fall in love with this production and the incredible new talent we’re so proud to introduce to the stage,” Executive Producer Andrew Gyopar said.

The production is directed by Aimee Forrest, with Kent Ross as musical director and Maggie Lynch as choreographer. The creative team aims to deliver a dynamic and engaging show for both long-time fans of the film and new audiences.
