Filipino Barrio Fiesta by the Sea to Celebrate Seafarers at Melbourne Food and Wine Festival

The Melbourne Food and Wine Festival (MFWF) is bringing a special event to the city this April, as The Entree.Pinays hosts a Filipino Barrio Fiesta by the Sea in partnership with Mission to Seafarers Victoria. The event recognises and celebrates the work of seafarers and port workers, who are the unsung frontline workers responsible for moving essential cargo globally. The event takes place on April 1st and 2nd, featuring local Filipino culinary talent and a range of exciting activities.

Recognising the Contribution of Seafarers and Port Workers

Seafarers and port workers are responsible for moving essential cargo worldwide, and the event aims to recognize their contribution to global trade. About 60 per cent of seafarers arriving in Melbourne’s ports are from the Philippines, making the Filipino Barrio Fiesta by the Sea a unique opportunity to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Filipino community in Australia. The event hopes to bring new awareness, audiences, and support to Mission to Seafarers Victoria.

A Weekend of Colourful Street Food and Entertainment

The event promises a weekend of colourful street food, desserts, and good vibes. The event’s highlight is the official Melbourne film and book premiere of The Calamansi Story on April 1st, accompanied by a Q&A session with Erwan Heussaff, The Entree.Pinays, Luisa Brimble, authors, and key project partners. The ticket for this event costs $45 and includes a Filipino snack box and a can of the new Merkado by The Entree.Pinays x DV Cider calamansi drink.

On April 2nd, the focus shifts to a Food Fiesta, where guests can enjoy a Seafood Kamayan Plate that comes with a newly released Merkado x DV Cider Calamansi Drink. This ticket costs $65, and guests can also attend the general program, which includes live entertainment, food trucks, and merchandise for purchase.

Tickets and Further Information

The event takes place at the historic Seafarers Mission building, and tickets are available at the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival website. For those not interested in the Kamayan Plate, a general admission ticket costs $10 and includes a can of the newly released Merkado x DV Cider Calamansi Drink and all-day access to the general program.

The Entree.Pinays hopes that this event will bring new awareness and audiences to Mission to Seafarers Victoria while providing an opportunity to give back to those who have kept the world moving during the pandemic. For more information on the event, please visit The Entree.Pinays website.
