Filo students can opt for VCE Filipino at Philippine Language School of Victoria

The Philippine Language School of Victoria Inc. (PLSVI) offers classes for people of all ages— teaching students how to read, write, and speak Filipino through an approved curriculum in Victoria. Over 30 students (from Primary to Secondary and VCE level, as well as beginners of all ages, including adults) have demonstrated their improved Filipino language skills from attending the Saturday morning classes at Braybrook or Wodonga on a weekly basis.

While students are automatically enrolled in VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education) at their mainstream school, it is possible for students to seek approval to undertake 2 units in Year 11 in a Community Language, otherwise known as Language Other Than English (LOTE) externally. This allows for students to enroll into VCE Filipino at PLSVI.

Australians with Filipino roots in secondary school have a great opportunity to study VCE Filipino as a pathway into University, which can potentially provide a bonus of 10% to the student’s Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR). Teachers at the school are proud to guide all students to help them become proud of their race and culture as Filipinos. Teacher Julie Uy affirms, “love for our families and relatives and community in the Philippines will always linger in our hearts, as when we return for holidays, we are proud to speak our national language”. The school emphasises a strong approach to cultural ethics, family values, social values, history and literacy at all levels, including years 11 & 12.

The classes are delivered by the following qualified teachers: Violy Binuya, Roel Paje, Catherine Yap, Rose Balod, Julie Uy.
