With deep pride, the Filipino Australian & Friends Association (FAFA) announces the installation of the first bust of Dr Jose Rizal in Victoria at the Philippine House in Shepparton. First proposed by former Consul General Maria Lourdes Salcedo, the project has now come to life as a meaningful tribute to the community’s roots and shared history.
The bronze bust of the Philippine national hero now stands gracefully in the garden of the Philippine House, set atop a finely crafted pedestal.
Surrounded by nature, the space offers a peaceful and respectful setting to reflect on Dr Rizal’s lasting legacy. Members of the FAFA Committee gathered at the site to mark the occasion, with the Philippine and Australian flags proudly on display. Their presence highlights the association’s continued commitment to preserving Filipino heritage and nurturing unity in Shepparton’s multicultural community.
Plans for an official launch are currently being discussed by the FAFA Committee, with coordination to follow with the Knights of Rizal (KOR), Kababaihang Rizalista Inc. (KRI), Lady Josephine Quintero – Dr Jose Rizal’s great-grandniece – and former Consul General Salcedo.
The bust stands as a lasting symbol of Filipino pride, identity, and the community’s dedication to keeping its cultural legacy alive.
