The Movement Against Tyranny-Australia will hold a forum on “What’s happening in the Philippines?” on 8 April 2018 from 2 pm at the Our Lady of Perpetual Succor Church at 21 Swanson St Erskineville NSW (walking distance from train station).

The Forum aims to inform the public on the state of terror and human rights in the Philippines.

Peter Murphy, Chairperson of the Gobal Council of the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines (ICHRP) – global network of solidarity groups, organizations and rights advocates outside the Philippines – will speak at the Forum and share the findings of the International Solidarity Mission (ISM) on the impact of martial law on human and people’s rights in the Philippines. The ISM went to 4 regions in Mindanao from February 18 to 25, 2018 and Peter joined the group that went to Northern Mindanao and visited the evacuees in Marawi.

Peter experienced first hand the harassment, threats and intimidations of ICHRP human rights monitors during the solidarity mission and call them the “sorry attempts by the Duterte administration and its State agents to cover-up the real situation in the Philippines”.

The Forum is an opportunity to hear about the challenging situation of evacuees in Marawi, how military operations especially under Martial Law has worsened the situation and predicament or indigenous communities and how the people are resisting Duterte’s rule of terror.
