From local roots to global fruits: Miss Earth Australia Alexa Roder

Miss Earth Australia 2025 Alexa Roder has officially entered the competition phase for the Miss Earth 2025 title at Okada Manila, following a high-impact pre-pageant advocacy and immersion tour in the Philippines. The 24-year-old Filipino-Australian law student is now striving to secure a historic back-to-back victory for Australia.

Alexa capped her Melbourne engagements, including the Runway in the Rainforest at the Melbourne Fringe Festival and the Share Me a Dream Rio Carnival Charity Ball auction, where she took part in an art auction benefiting disadvantaged communities in Mindanao, taking home a piece created by Filipino artist Ninio Sepulveda before a send off party organised by the Filipino-Australian community, held at Carlei Wines & The Green Vineyards.

Now, her recent work in the Philippines seamlessly connects her environmental platform with her cultural heritage. The journey back to Alexa’s roots began in her birthplace, Davao City, showcasing her commitment to sustainable practices and community partnerships. She took part in a Davao Sustainability and Farming Immersion Tour, which included several hands-on experiences:

  • Mangrove Planting at the Astorga Environment/Mangrove Sanctuary in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur conducted with ECHO Cares.
  • Coffee Nursery Immersion and Planting with the Bagobo Tagabawa Tribes in Upper Catigan, Toril, Davao City.
  • Sustainability and Permaculture Farming at Gran Verde Family Farm in Calinan, Davao City, where she joined a movement rooted in permaculture, aiming to grow a future where “care for the earth, care for people, and fair sharing come full circle”.

As part of her Davao engagements, Alexa paid a courtesy visit to the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Davao City Chapter and the Hall of Justice, where she discussed topics such as environmental law, youth empowerment and access to justice. A proud Davaoeña currently completing her Bachelor of Laws (Honours) in Australia, Alexa shared insights on how legal education can serve as a platform for sustainability and community advocacy. Her mother is also a practicing lawyer in Australia, and Alexa talked about bilateral legal cooperation between the two nations.

Her compassion also shone through during her visit to the Maharlika Charity Foundation, Inc. (MCFI) in Davao City. During her visit, she was officially introduced as the foundation’s ambassador. In this role, she aims to help raise awareness about MCFI’s mission of providing free surgical services to patients with cleft lip and palate, among others. Her appointment also resonates with her personal journey as she has publicly shared that she is a cancer survivor, an experience that deepened her empathy for those facing medical challenges.

The Davao visit culminated in a major Kapihan sa Davao Press Conference at SM City Davao. Speaking as a “dabaweña at heart,” Alexa proudly shared how her environmental passion was inspired by her late father, a pineapple farmer, who instilled in her the importance of giving back to Mother Earth. Alexa articulated her mission: “I want to be the voice for Mother Earth… Nature can heal, and it’s our duty to protect it.” She also reflected on the role of youth in climate action, stating: “We only have one Earth, and we want our future children to see it. One small change each day can create a ripple of real change.”

Following her Mindanao leg, Alexa continued to the capital for engagements in Manila, including a Meet & Greet and Press Conference, a visit to the Megaworld Headquarters and a Courtesy Call at the Australian Embassy in Manila, where she met with Deputy Ambassador Dr. Moya Collett to round off her preparations before entering the pageant.

Having leveraged her dual heritage, law background and extensive advocacy work across Australia and the Philippines, Alexa Roder has stepped confidently onto the Miss Earth 2025 stage, carrying with her the united hopes of two nations, and a mission to prove that beauty, intellect and compassion can indeed grow from local roots to bearing global fruits. Padayon at mabuhay ka, Alexa!

The much awaited Miss Earth 2025 coronation event will be held on 5 November at Cove Manila Club of Okada Manila in Parañaque City, Philippines.
