Call me unromantic, but when did Valentine’s Day turn into such a big deal? Has Valentine’s Day become too commercialised, and is it a bad thing?

Australians have a love-hate relationship with Valentine’s Day. Many look forward to February 14th as an occasion to embrace your partner, while others dread the pressures that this day can cause.

If we have unrealistic expectations, we can easily set ourselves up for disappointment. Fortunately, it’s possible to enjoy this occasion without hurting someone’s feelings or breaking the bank.

Valentine’s Day should simply serve as a reminder that it’s important to stop and acknowledge the closest relationships in your life, not just your partner but family and friends too.

The love from family or those who you consider special in life is irreplaceable. Don’t take these relationships for granted and make sure you celebrate them every day, not just Valentine’s Day.

Let’s face it, Valentine’s Day does hold a special place for lovers, but it’s meant for everyone. Whether you’re coupled or single, it’s a celebration of love in all its forms.
