Life Insurance: Using Modern Technology To Protect Ourselves

How many live by the adage that we should ‘hope for the best but prepare for the worst’? This may be easier said than done in some cases, but acquiring TAL life insurance is not one of them. We are experiencing the most technologically advanced age the world has ever known, and this can be used to our advantage, especially when researching and making informed choices about life insurance.

Why do we need life insurance?

Sugar-coating why we need life insurance is not in anyone’s best interests. The truth is that if we are diagnosed with a terminal illness or die unexpectedly, we do not want to leave our loved ones and dependents struggling financially through their grief. Any worthwhile life insurance policy ensures they can maintain their standard of living without anxiety about their financial situation. The sooner we avail ourselves of life insurance, the sooner we can live our lives to the fullest.

Using modern tech to secure comprehensive life insurance

Although obtaining life insurance in Australia can now be done in minutes, rushing headlong into a decision is unwise. Set time apart, do your due diligence, and make informed rather than snap decisions.

  • Comparison sites—Use widely recognised, reputable sites to compare policies directly. Target specific terms and conditions and note any variations. Watch for additional costs, attitudes to hazardous occupations, policies surrounding pre-existing medical conditions, and age restrictions.
  • Research your shortlist—Choose a sensible number of potential providers (not fewer than three or more than ten). Use your preferred search engine to find information about your potential providers. Although you should weigh any reviews cautiously, given the amount of disingenuity online, high numbers of negative reviews should be a red flag. If negative reviews outnumber positives, eliminate that provider from the list.
  • Visit government or accreditation sites—Any legitimate life insurance provider will be registered in one or more locations, and you should find valuable information readily available.
  • Reduce your shortlist to three—Any more becomes unwieldy.
  • Speak to each provider—While acquiring life insurance online without ever speaking directly to another person is feasible, sometimes the good old-fashioned methods can bear the most fruit. Prepare a list of questions, and use your gut instinct to make a judgement. Insurance representatives may be keen to sign you up and offer further discounts to tempt you, but if you are unsure, thank them and hang up. You can always call back and we are avoiding spontaneous decisions.
  • Double-check your findings and make your final decision—By now, you should have ample ways to judge each provider’s merits and policy. Choose the one you feel most comfortable with and only sign when you have addressed any issues and questions your research led to.

Final thoughts

There has never been an easier time to step up to our responsibilities and shield ourselves against the worst thrown at us. Modern technology gives us access to resources previous generations could only have dreamed of, and it is our responsibility to use them. Take your time, make intelligent, well-considered decisions and, when in doubt, turn to TAL life insurance.
