Wyndham’s multicultural community is being explored with the launch of a new online storybook.

The online storybook aims to gather residents’ information on different races, cultures and traditions, with the intention of sharing them with the community.

People can upload images and words on where they have come from, what they have brought with them in terms of their own culture and what they love most about Wyndham.

Wyndham City’s Cultural Diversity Portfolio Holder Cr Gautam Gupta said by sharing the personal stories, residents can see some of the fun and far flung places people have travelled from to call Wyndham home.

“With an estimated 34 per cent of Wyndham residents born outside Australia, chances are you or someone you know have a story to tell on how you came to be in Wyndham,” Cr Gupta said.

“Whether you’re from Melbourne, Manila, Mumbai, Maningrida or Manchester – chances are you’ll be able to relate to something in these stories.”

“Increasing understanding of each other’s’ backgrounds helps to break down barriers and reduce racism. The online story book is part of the Racism: It Stops With Me campaign, which Wyndham City committed to in early 2014 and encourages residents to call out racist behaviour wherever it occurs.”

“I encourage residents to join in this community wide effort and submit their photos and stories and who knows, you may have more in common with your neighbours than you think.”
