In their inaugural performance, singing trio Herbert Fangon, Claudette Calixto and Michelle Padua, now known as Acts of Love, took on stage not only beautiful sounds and high calibre musical skills but also an enticing show of artistic collaboration, professionalism and respect, made more meaningful by a common goal of supporting a worthy cause.
On 27 May, the sold-out event, presented by Frontline Foundation at Kindred Studios, showcased music as a medium to inspire and to bring hope to vulnerable groups in the Philippines. The Acts of Love concert aims to support programs and projects of Frontline Foundation with the Badjao communities in the Philippines. Headed by Pastor Buddy and Tess Abadilla, Frontline Foundation is a non-profit international aid organisation dedicated to empowering less-privileged and vulnerable people.
What a spectacular show featuring the amazing vocal styles, versatility and entertaining skills of three artists – former Meralco Choir baritone singer Herbert Fangon, ABS-CBN Davao talent Claudette Calixto and Young Australian Broadway Chorus School A-student Michelle Padua, who came together for the first time for this worthwhile project.
Herbert Fangon, with his powerful baritone vocals, phenomenal gift of storytelling and irresistible charm, left the audience in awe. A romantic charmer, Fangon has a natural way of connecting with the audience with his voice and styles.
Claudette Calixto, who is also known as Ate CC of the 92.3FM 3ZZZ Filipino Program HOY PINOY (aired every Wednesday 3-4pm), surprised the audience not only with her sweet, mesmerising voice but also with her stage presence and dance moves. With years of experience in the entertainment industry in the Philippines, Calixto proved that she knows how to own the stage and engage the audience.
The youngest of the three, Michelle Padua, appears shy but definitely equally talented, showed off her vocal abilities and projection as well as her unique artistic style. Padua and Calixto did not only shine onstage as singers but also as models as they graciously flaunt GerElle Creations.
Acts of Love was also supported by Thomastown’s City Connect Church talented young artists – siblings Jobelle and Joseph Marasigan; the pretty Caitlyn Reddoch; the City Connect Church youth band Marion Padua (keyboards), Joshua Barreno (drums), Toby Pronstroller (lead guitar), RJ Bermejo (bass guitar); and the demure soul/pop singer-musical director Joy Go.
An additional highlight of the spectacularly memorable night, two of the well-known Ballet Manila’s lead dancers Abigail Oliveiro and Cagayan de Oro native Mark Sumaylo delivered such a superb and breath-taking performance.
Acts of Love started as a concept. Then, it became a project. And now, it evolved as a collaboration driven by a common passion, principle and purpose – love of music, generosity of the heart and commitment to help.
Acts of Love is a collaboration by Frontline Foundation, all the artists with their project leader Atty. Lyne Cortez and under the direction of Chito Javier and his production team.
