Pasko sa Geelong 2023: A Day of Cultural Celebration and Community Spirit

The Filipino Australian Friendship Association of Geelong Inc (FAFAG) will host the “Pasko sa Geelong 2023” (Christmas in Our Hearts) event on Sunday, 3rd December 2023, from 10 am to 4 pm. at the FAFAG Clubhouse, 28 The Boulevard Norlane, Victoria. This event promises a day filled with cultural festivities, music, and communal joy, celebrating the rich Filipino culture and its integration into the Australian community.

The gates will open to the public at 10 am, welcoming everyone to a day of festive fun.

The event will officially commence at 10:10 am with a Welcome and introduction, including an acknowledgment of the Country. 

The Be Kind Choir and the Geelong Youth Choir will sing national anthems, followed by speeches from the Deputy Mayor of the City of Greater Geelong, Councillor Anthony Aitken, and Mila Cichello, President of FAFAG, highlighting the importance of multicultural organisations in the Geelong regional community. In addition, the Governor General of Australia, HE General David Hurley, and the Philippine Consul General, HE Maria Lourdes Salcedo, will extend their Christmas greetings and acknowledge the founding members of FAFAG.

Ms Catherine De Luca will represent the Australian Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Richard Marles. The organising committee welcomes her and looks forward to her interaction with the Filipino community.

The indoor activities at FAFAG Hall will feature children’s Christmas storytelling sessions with Anna Manuel, and the outdoor stage will host various choirs and dance performances. The Muzo Mates and the Be Kind Choir will perform an array of Christmas carols, and the PEASER Senior Dancers and the Bendigo Filipino Foundation Dances will showcase traditional Filipino dances.

Children will also be able to engage in parol-making sessions and outdoor games. At the same time, adults can participate in an adult parol-making session in the afternoon. The event will feature a special appearance by Father Christmas and his helpers, distributing gifts to children under 12 years.

“Pasko sa Geelong 2023” is more than just a celebration; it’s a testament to the harmonious blend of Filipino and Australian cultures, fostering friendship and community spirit. This event is set to be a memorable day for all attendees, marking a festive start to the holiday season.
