PCG-Melbourne, FASTCO vow strengthened support to International Students during Post Arrival Orientation Seminar

The Philippine Consulate General in Melbourne (PCG-Melbourne), in partnership with the Filipino-Australian Student Council (FASTCO) and other organisations, reaffirmed its commitment to assist Filipino international students in Victoria during the Post Arrival Orientation Seminar held on 31 July  2025 at the Consulate’s premises.

Newly appointed Consul General Jesus “Gary” Domingo personally addressed the students, assuring them of the Consulate’s continued guidance and support.

“We want to help you with your studies, with getting a job, and ultimately, with promoting the Filipino community in Victoria,” Consul General Domingo emphasised.

The seminar opened with Consul Jan Sherwin Wenceslao providing an overview of the Consulate’s services, followed by FASTCO President Dasha Marice Uy, who presented the organisation’s programs designed to aid international students in their academic journey and integration into Australian society.

Afterwards, key discussions on Cultural Integration, Legal Support, and Immigration Services with insights were held with Mr. Gary Lee of the City of Melbourne’s International Education team, and Atty. Michele Martinez of Whittlesea Community Connections.

A panel discussion on Work Rights, Employment Opportunities, and Career Growth followed, which featured Ms. Janeca Gross from the Australia-Philippine Business Council and Ms. Florence Dato of the Migrant Workers Centre, who shared practical advice and resources for students entering the workforce.

The program concluded with an open forum, where students voiced their concerns and sought guidance on issues affecting their studies and professional life in Victoria. The PCG reaffirmed its commitment to address these needs through stronger collaboration with community organisations and local service providers.

This initiative reflects the PCG-Melbourne and FASTCO’s shared mission to empower international students, foster their success, and strengthen the Filipino community’s presence in Victoria.
