Pinoy Badminton Socials (PBS) tournament held in Melbourne

By Mary Malibiran

Filipinos from around Melbourne come together for their passion and love for badminton sports. Some players have known one another since 2017 when simple meetups first started. As time went by, it became a huge group.

The Pinoy Badminton Socials (PBS) held its first Doubles Category tournament, which took place at Stormers Badminton Centre, Tottenham in Victoria on 2 July 2021. Flites (one of the other badminton clubs in Melbourne) also assisted in organising this event.

Four teams competed (Blue, Green, Yellow and Red) where each team was composed of 12 members:

The major sponsor of the tournament was – Talyer Auto Group, headed by Milan Carpio. While secondary sponsors included: Happy Concrete by Niel and Kerrie; Shot and Prints Photobooth Services by Michael Malibiran; IG: Braveminton by CashAna; Sweets’ Kwin by Kwin.

Uniforms have been sponsored too by some of the teammates within those teams. Klutch Activewear ensured the uniforms will be made perfect.

This Tottenham group has social games every Friday Night from 6 pm to 10 pm (being organized by Michael Malibiran and others). The Friday socials have around 50 players/attendees on a normal basis.

All fellow Filipinos who would like to keep fit and do socials, and meet others at the same time are encouraged to join in this perfect avenue.

All other locations where socials are being held are in Heidelberg, which is organised by EJ Ermac, and Clayton, organised by RB Jay.

Stay tuned for next season’s tournament which is being laid out and planned in the coming months.
