26 Filipino Care Workers and Nurses Bridge the Gap in Albury

Albury, January 30, 2024 – Lutheran Aged Care Albury, an aged care centre facing staff shortages, has teamed up with Groworx, a major recruitment and training company. Together, they have brought in 26 Filipino care workers and nurses. This important move strengthens the centre’s care quality and serves as a creative, compassionate model for solving worldwide workforce issues.

This partnership, which started in October 2023 with 10 care workers and 3 nurses, has grown successfully. Lutheran Aged Care Albury has significantly improved its care for the elderly by expanding its team to include 26 Filipino care workers, of whom 8 are nurses, with the addition of 16 skilled staff.

Lutheran Aged Care Albury, already known for its welcoming international workforce, embraces the positive cultural aspects these new team members bring. As Wendy Rocks, Managing Director, explains, “We have been wonderfully welcoming to the new staff from the Philippines and can share with them much ‘settling in’ information. Our international workers improve our team by treating care work as an important and respected job. Their culture teaches them to honour and respect older people, and they see taking care of them as a privilege.”

Wendy Rocks further commends Groworx’s role, stating, “Working with the Philippine’s Groworx team; their organisation skills, attention to detail, kindness and courtesy have been refreshing as we share the joy of seeing the workforce challenges able to be addressed, and the benefit that is to the workers that come to work with us. This program is a serious investment, and that would be questioned, but for the efficiency and smooth sailing achieved with the Groworx team.”

This initiative transcends immediate staffing needs. This effort aims to tackle global workforce challenges and promote a diverse, inclusive team, improving the overall care experience. This creates a more positive and fulfilling environment for both residents and staff.

Lutheran Aged Care Albury, with assistance from Groworx, actively works to ensure new team members integrate easily. They offer detailed programs to help them get used to their new environment, making them valuable members of the team.

Dan Sandiford, CEO and Co-founder of Groworx emphasizes the program’s impact, saying, “We’re committed to working with providers like Lutheran Aged Care to find innovative solutions to the aged care staffing crisis. This isn’t just about filling gaps; it’s about ensuring high-quality care for all residents. We’re proud to be part of this movement that makes a real difference in communities facing chronic workforce shortages.”

Lutheran Aged Care Albury and Groworx show that working together, using creative ideas, and valuing cultural diversity can improve aged care.
