Star Magic has been known to produce some of the best and more popular artists in the Philippines but did you know that they also offer workshops?
When the pandemic hit last year Rahyan Carlos, who has been heading Star Magic Artist Training and Workshops for the last 13 years, started studying how to transpose the training modules to an online platform. Rahyan Carlos is an accredited teacher of the Chubbuck Technique in Acting. Ivana Chubbuck is known to have taught Hollywood A-listers like Charlize Theron, Brad Pitt and Halle Berry.
To ensure that the participants will still get quality and value from the workshops they have rules and regulations in place. An orientation will help the potential enrolees set up their expectations and have all their questions answered. There will also be a limit of 20 students per class so that the instructors can see all the students in their screen. There will also be assistants present that will monitor the students and give recaps in case someone drops from the Zoom call.
Direk Rahyan shared that last year, when the online courses were first done, the online setup offered them a more intimate setting. The students became more creative in presenting their scenes thru their monitors. He admitted that some bits became a little slower due to the constraints of not being physically present with the students but since most students were training for acting for film and TV (or acting in front of the camera) they were given a first hand taste of how it is.
Now for the big question: Does attending the workshop assure you a talent contract with Star Magic? Well no. Direk Rahyan however said that all students are kept in an active file and are on top of mind when they are asked for referrals for new projects. He added that attending these workshops gets you ready for your break, like Charlene Dizon who has been attending workshops for years and until recently has won two Best Actress awards for her role in Fan Girl.
Star Magic will offer the following in their online workshop: Acting for Teens and Adults led by Carla Martinez, Rubi Rubi with Lynette Conception and Air Paz Paldico; Kids Acting with Edna Mae Landicho and HB Benitez; Dance which is divided into three genres namely Jazz Funk with Nesh Janiola III of Axis, Hip Hop with Brion Lim of Manouvres Ignite and Urban with Geejay Romano; Voice Lessons with Philippine Madrigal singer alumni Luningning San Jose, Julie Anne Reyes and Roland Roldan and a new course Conversational Tagalog with Wena Sadorra.
