USTAA announces new officers for 2026–2028

The University of Santo Tomas Alumni Association Australia (USTAA) has announced its newly elected officers for the 2026–2028 term.

At the helm is Ms. Vangie Leones, one of the pioneers of USTAA and a graduate of BS Electronics and Communications Engineering at UST. She brings strong leadership skills and extensive expertise in information technology.

Joining the board are Techie Sarbalus as Secretary, Mr. James Tekiko as Public Relations Officer (PRO), and Ms. Fiori Cruz as Vice President for Queensland.

Ms. Sarbalus, a Medical Technology graduate (1980), is an active parish ministry volunteer. Mr. Tekiko, a BS Nursing (1991) graduate, has a 35-year nursing career and is also involved in various entertainment platforms. Ms. Cruz is a double alumna, having completed her high school education and BS Commerce degree (1962) at UST. She is a dedicated lifelong community volunteer with various Queensland-based organisations.

USTAA officers 2026-2028

Pioneers who retained their positions include Cecilia Flores as Vice President for ACT, Dr. Myrna Jover as Vice President for NSW, Marina Ruivivar as Vice President for Victoria, Cielo Franklin as Vice President for WA, and Roma Abarquez as Internal Auditor. Mr. Rodi Orantia was re-elected as Treasurer, while Alma Pablo continues as Vice President for South Australia.

Immediate Past President Ms. Len Puzon remains on the board as an ex officio member. Founding President Ms. Kate Andres continues in her advisory role, while Ms. Benjie de Ubago remains as Public Officer.

“As USTAA celebrates its fifth year, we continue to grow the association, engage Thomasians across Australia, and strengthen our ties with our beloved Alma Mater” said Ms. Leones. “The visit of the very Reverend Father Richard Ang OP, UST Father Rector, to Sydney on 9 May 2026 will be an honour for us. We hope Thomasians will join us in giving him a warm welcome.”
