Victorian government to provide $200 vouchers to encourage kids to get active this Summer

Must read

In an effort to make community sport more affordable for kids in time for summer, the Victorian government today announced the opening of new applications for the next round of the Labor Government’s Get Active Kids Voucher Program.

“Every kid deserves the chance to play the sport they love with their friends, and this is about supporting them to do that, maybe for the first time,” Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence said.

Under the program, eligible families can apply for vouchers of up to $200 and use them at registered sporting clubs and activity providers without having to worry about upfront costs.

In addition to equipment, uniforms and memberships, vouchers can be used for club cricket, dance and other activities.

Parents and carers of toddlers can also use the vouchers for learn-to-swim classes.

More than 58,000 vouchers have so far been issued across the first four rounds of the program, with almost a quarter of the vouchers helping kids join a local sports club for the first time.

The most recent round of the program found that 50 percent of participants would not have been able to participate without the voucher.

“We’re making community sport more accessible so that more kids can join their friends at local pools and sporting clubs,” Minister Spence said.

To be eligible, children must be 18 years of age or younger, Victorian residents, listed on a Commonwealth Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, and on a Medicare Card.

Clubs, associations and organisations can register anytime to be a Get Active Kids Voucher Activity Provider to be able to redeem the voucher from the Labor Government. For clubs and sporting organisations to be eligible, they must be affiliated with a State Sporting Association or equivalent.

There is also a special consideration stream for children living in Victorian Care Services, temporary or provisional visa holders, undocumented migrants, and international students aged 18 and under.

This round of applications closes at 5pm on 30 November 2022. Reimbursement for expenses already incurred prior to the opening of this round is also still available to families.
