Watch Kai Sotto play in Australia

19-year-old Filipino baller Kai Sotto was able to show a taste of what he’s made of in Australia during the NBL Pre-Tournament Blitz in Cairns. In the thrilling match between the Cairns Taipans, the Adelaide 36ers won 91-87, in which Kai scored 7 points. His performance was seen to be impressive in his first game in Australia.

Round 1 of the NBL Season commenced on 3 December, where the Adelaide 36ers played against the Perth Wildcats. Unfortunately, Sotto could not play due to pain in his knee.

While most games in the first six rounds will be played in Adelaide, the team will also play in Perth, Hobart and Cairns. Due to COVID-19 border restrictions, the NBL has unfortunately changed its original plans and has kept games in the first six rounds away from Sydney and Melbourne.

“Like every sporting organisation around the country, we were acutely aware our schedule would likely change as Australia and New Zealand started to open up and adapt to vaccination rates and health advice,” Hungry Jack’s NBL Commissioner Jeremy Loeliger said in a statement.

“We have the ability to swap and change when necessary but will always maintain the integrity of the schedule.

“Getting teams into states and fans into venues safely remains our absolute priority. We will maintain a flexible approach to the schedule to ensure any potential further changes are made with these two objectives at the forefront.

“We will ensure each team still plays 14 home games and we will endeavour to give fans as much notice as possible when further changes are made after Round 6,” Loeliger said.

All games will be broadcast live on ESPN and available on ESPN App, and the 1 pm Sunday game will also be simulcast live on 10 Peach.

A spokesperson from Adelaide 36ers has informed The Philippine Times that there are hopes that there will be games in Sydney and Melbourne after Round 6. Visit the adelaide36ers.com or nbl.com.au/fixture for an update on the fixture for the season.
