Woman wins $3000 travel voucher through sending money with WU

Filipino-born Maria Cristina Rennex has won a $3000 travel voucher from The Western Union Company’s (End of Year) promotion for sending a Western Union® Money TransferSM through a Western Union agent in Berala, NSW.

In December 2009, Rennex received bad news from home that her father had fallen sick. Upon hearing this news, Rennex immediately went to her regular Western Union agent and transferred the necessary money to cover his medical bills. As the news coincided with Christmas, the money also served as a gift for her family to celebrate the festivities. Little did she know, her kindness would be rewarded.

A loving daughter and sister, Rennex comes from a tight-knit family of seven. She sends money at least once a month to support the living expenses of her family in the Philippines: “My mum prefers Western Union because she can receive money within minutes and it’s also safe. Once I make the transfer and get the control number, I just give her a call and she can go to the closest Western Union agent and pick it up.” With Rennex’s support, her younger brother also graduated from university earlier this year.

Western Union’s EOY Promotion was held across the country from October to December 2009. The promotion was open to customers who transferred money through the Western Union service in Australia to the Philippines, giving them a chance to win a $3000 travel voucher.

Monika Khanna, Marketing Manager, Australia, was pleased that the prize went to such a deserving winner. “Western Union is delighted that Maria, who diligently supports her loved ones overseas, has been recognized and rewarded. It is a great pleasure for us to run campaigns that reward customers who rely on Western Union money transfer services.” The Western Union Company is a leader in global payment services, with over 5,000 Agent locations across Australia.
